I just want to make sure this is the lens everyone keeps saying I should get before I give my debit card number...

I would say thats a great start,
but befor you click buy, is there a camera store near you house you can just go pick it up at, the difference in price will only be a few buck, but thats the same as shipping

That's true in some cases, but, in my case, I've seen prices vary wildly at teh brick& mortar stores.
When I bought my Tamron 28-75, B&H had it for $369 + shipping and the local store had it for $350 + tax. I saved a couple of dollars AND got it right away.
When I bought my 85mm f1.8, B&H has it for $339 + shipping while the local store wanted $429 + tax. I saved about $90 with B&H, but had to wait.
Doesn't make sense to me...

| I have the Digital Rebel XT, didn't know better, got the "kit" lens ... then bought that one ... and don't regret it for a second ... very good lens for the price ... buy it! |
