(added editing steps a few posts down!)

Recently bought the Tokina 12-24 after selling some old equipment. I'm just starting to figure it out but it looks to be a really fun and practical lens. Here's a shot from yesterday:

Lemme know what you think! There's som compression on the image as I uploaded it here at 800pixels.

Ya'll better comment then!

Here's the original.

Although I had gotten some great shots straight out of the lens, yesterday happened to be a fairly dreary day and I wanted to take the photo into my own hands, afterwards. That's something that I usually do not do but with my new CS2 I decided to give it a whirl.

I used 11 layers in total.

I'll start with the foreground (4 Layers).

I did one layer for Curves, and I added some contrast to the foreground. I then did a Selective Color layer in which I added some yellows and reds to the grass in order to "reflect" what I had in mind for the sky. I then added a layer of dodging and burning where I dodged the highlights of the rocks and some of the grass as well as burned in the shadows. I completed the foreground with a "Cleanup" layer where I made some little adjustments like USM and clone stamp, etc.

Then, the sky (7 Layers).

As with the foreground I started with Curves and added some slight contrast. I then went on to a shadows/highlights layer where I started to bring out more of the shadows then what was showing on the original. Proceeding that I used 3 separate color filters, one yellow, one red, and one Deep red at 75%, 50%, 50% opacity respectively. I applied all three of these layers using a layer masks that I made with a gradient to give it a gradND-feel. That was actually my main goal as I began working on the image. I then had a layer for burning in the bases of the clouds. I finished up with one "cleanup" layer then.

I hope this helped. If you want any more information, let me know

Wow - 11 layers. Don't think I've ever used more than 3 - and that was only after Bear Music explained the landscape tutorial.

Excellent work Lee - thanks for the tutorial. left a comment for ya.

I am sure this has been posted before, but check out this Photoshop project - 15,000 layers, 11 months, 2000 hours - one of my PS heros.

Chicago

O love to see the amazing things you folks do with PS. Thanks again Lee.

Nice pic, i like the pop it has. I'm not so keen on the urine colored sky though. Just my opinion.

The PS project - nice pic, but why? I suppose after 15,000 layers and multiple files and 2,000 hours you'd be one hell of a PS expert, but who'd want the finished product?

What I'd love to see on the photo page is the stats: ISO, Tv, Av etc. And location. Surely, this is "England's green and pleasant land"? (I did leave a comment...)
