With advanced editing, can I add to the image in photoshop? What editing is acceptable and unacceptable. Yes I read the rules, but call me blonde I am not sure exactly whats fine line, you know? Thanks for the help.

Edit, this is for Challenge: Self Portrait IV

What do you mean by add to the image? You can't create elements that weren't there, no.

ok, so i need real smoke? That is what I was looking for. I didn't know if I could add a layer of smoke. I was trying to figure out how to do it and still breath lol. I was going to take the smoke shot first on the prop then layer it over the second shot.

Edit Two exact shots, one with smoke, one with me, layered...

Yes, real "smoke"; but you can get it from dry ice, for example...

I'm guessing this would be for the Heat challenge? My best guess is that any PSing to add smoke or the visual distortion caused by hot air would be considered adding a major element, which is a no-go.

Not only would that be adding major elements, it would be violating the part of the rules that states "Your entry must come from a single photograph, taken during the specified challenge timeframe. You may not post-process your entry from or to include elements of multiple images, multiple exposures, clip art, computer-rendered images, or elements from other photographs (even those taken during the challenge week), and other similar items."

With dry ice, do make sure you are in a fairly well ventilated area. Dry ice releases Carbon Dioxide when it melts. Large amount of CO2 could cause you to lose conciousness or worse.

In a large living area the amounts of CO2 aren't a concern, but in a smaller room, they could become harmful.

Buy a cheap fog machine from the party store. Fun to play with, safe and good in photographs. :)

Mine runs constantly - the neighbors don't stop by anymore.

Thanks for all the input. One image, dry ice or fog machine, and have fun. I can do that :o)
