Yes, a major overhaul is needed

Add DTDs
Lose the music
Increase the small font size
Lose the counter
Lose the box with the date
Open new pages in same window
FAQs open over images and contain incorrect information
Only some links have title tips
etc

Looks like a hodgepodge of different styles and methods of construction. A consistent style is very much in need.

thanks man..

what are dtds?

and another question... is flash real hard to learn? I picked up photoshop and adobe premiere and encore dvd real quickly?

Cuz I know flash would make a really great site- and i'd correct all those problems you listed. Any experience with flash?

Eh, I don't think Flash is particularly necessary. My site was programmed on basic HTML from around 1994, no javascript, no flash, nothing fancy. The most complicated element of my coding is a table (not including the forms code for the Paypal buttons, which Paypal generates on its own). Consistency and simplicity are better than bells and whistles. Make navigation intuitive. You want people in your portfolio? Then make that link bigger and bolder than the others. Increase your font size so it's readble on all monitors and no one is busting out the bifocals to see what you have to say.

I also agree that counters and music are generally tacky.

DTD or Document Type Definition is the first step in writing a web page and should be at the top of every page. It tells the browser what standards to use to render the page. After you finish your page you should run the page through a validator to check for glaring problems with your code.

Flash, some like it some don't. It's not terribly difficult to learn but making it work properly requires some effort. There are many reasons why I, in general, dislike Flash but the most important reason is because most people so poorly implement it.

Flash won't "make a really great site" it's up to the person using it to do that. Keep in mind what karmabreeze said, "Consistency and simplicity are better than bells and whistles." It's worth printing that sentence out and sticking it to the top of your monitor as you design a site.
