My boys participated in a Boy Scout Merit Badge program today and one of the badges they worked on was the Cimenatography merit badge. The instructor for the class, Thomas Nador, has a company, www.laszlorain.com, which does comercial work using a variety of equipment.
Mr. Nador though made a point to bring a Canon 20d setup to show what can be done using this camera. He has created a number of commercials using this camera for his clients with much success. As he points out, using the 20d means that he only has to take out a $2000 camera with a team of three vs a $750,000 film camera system with a team of 60 plus.
An example of his 20d work include:
Wintricity Spot
He showed another for IBC bank that was pretty cool. This one was more live action and I asked him how he got the frame rate using the 20d. A couple of things help:
1) Really fast memory
2) Direct firewire (1394) connection to a harddrive.
3) Shooting in medium resolution JPEG (since it was targeted at TV work).
All in all it was pretty neat and a lot of fun talking to this guy. |

I think only the Wintricity is done with the 20d. There was one he showed us for IBC but I don't see it on his website.
The IBC one used more frame capture similar to:
//patrykrebisz.com/films_f.html and
//599productions.com/
He indicated that he is working on inventing some sort of post production process to facilitate the creation of these films from the 20d.
