As you can see, the lower 9th ward (where I was born) is far from normal even 10 months after Katrina. I had to go there today for my company. IMO, this ward will have to be scrapped and all homes razed.
These photos represent the whole area. Every home is damaged to this extent.
No one will be able to live here.
Comments welcomed.

You are correct. The news media does not seem to be showing entire segments of this city destroyed. I didn't take any wide angle shots but if I had, you would see that this area looked like a Tsunami washed ashore.

Well, basically it did. I feel soooo sorry for the people from that area. I did see a really nice news story this morning about a girl who came up with thousands of prom gowns for the high school girls in that area. They had cancelled the prom, but restated it after these were donated. |

Telling pictures. With a wide angle lens you might have seen the mounds of debris, 6-9 feet tall, refrigerators still sitting on the side of the road, and having all of the trash removed a remote possibility. In less than a month hurricane season starts again (though June doesn't usually produce much threat. the water heats up mid July to August for the worst storms). If a hurricane lands near New Orleans, all of the debris piles basically become piles of missiles.
If you've got a spare couple of days to a week, consider volunteering on the Gulf coast. We could use a few good hands. |
