not presumptious at all..The only place I haven't been to is Golden Gate Park. But I don't want to go there unless there is some sweet scenery. I have been to RMNP, Roxborough and Mt. Evans. And love all of those places, and will go there anytime. But if Golden Gate park can stand up to those three, then I am game for that one too, since it will be a new experience. If not, then I would nominate Mt. Evans for diversity and proximity. Anyone else?

I will second Mt. Evans, as I've never been there.

I won't be able to make it, but this is the perfect time of year for Mt. Evans. Look for ptarmigan, a cool grouse above timberline. Alpine wildflowers should be at prime, take your macros, they are small. Can't wait to see your shots. Van |

Nice photos. I like the Ninth Planet. You seem like you were really trying to convey a sense of massive scale in these. |

That is a great point. That is what I am always trying to do when in the mountains, because sometimes, mountain photography makes the mountains themselves seemingly small. But that isn't the way of it at all. So I try to convey that to the viewer to at least give them a taste of the awe I experienced. I suppose all of them have people, so that really helps with scale.

I've always been told that one of the tricks to making mountains look big is to shorten the height of the sky.

Great point, once you point it out and I look at some solid mountain photos, I have to agree.

Looks like the GTG is at Mt. Evans on June 17th, now we just need a meeting place and time. Morning light would be nice, but I'm fairly open to most any time. Any other preferences? Does the gift shop at the bottom(next to Echo Lake) work for a meeting place? |

That sounds good. I have only been in the afternoon and really want to get up there as soon as humanly possible. I see EARLY EARLY.
The gift shop sounds like a really nice idea. I have been in touch with Brent Ward (no longer here on DPC, but still is a photographer..heh) and he wants to join us. He suggested we meet at his studio before heading up. That could save on driving if we carpool. You know gas prices. I live downtown and his studio is on the west side of I-25 just north of Speer. So if anyone wants to meet there, I can pass it on to him. And then we can meet up with the rest at the gift shop.
I wil go ahead and start pm'ing everyone who said they were interested maybe next week. Just in case they forgot or don't check the forums very often.

I like how you think on the early , early. We're talking presunrise I assume. I checked and the roads are open 24 hours a day(weather permitting), so early doesn't seem a problem. I'll have to see if I can find sunrise times for that date.

Brent Ward sounds familiar - is he a CNPer?

no I don't think so. I think he is more beauty, adverts, editorial. But I very well could be wrong.
Isn't CNP, Colorado Nature Photographers"?

This update was posted to CNP today:
Just thought I share this for anyone interestedâ€Â¦
I made a “recognizance†drive up to Mt. Evans yesterday afternoon. The road is open all the way to the summit.
Summit Lake is still mostly frozen. The road conditions are a bit bumpy (more than last year) around the lake. The edge of the road above Lincoln Lake has crumbled down the hillside in a few spots – careful here!
With afternoon thunderstorms in the area, the clouds and views on the way up were phenomenal, but once I got to the top, the clouds got thick. My descent was no more that 15mph and visibility was less than 20 feet. Needles to say no pics... but still a nice drive.

Mt. Evans on June 17th sounds great!
Since I am new to the area and have never been to Mt. Evans, can someone please post an address for the giftshop so I can get driving directions on MapQuest?
Thanks!

I figured it out - there's a different Brent over there. Anyway, I would prefer to meet up with people in Denver and carpool up. I'm willing to drive.

The Giftshop/Resteraunt/Lodge and the Mt Evans road are located immediately after Echo Lake on RD/HWY 103.
See lower center...
Map
...see Idaho Springs @ upper right for I-70 turn off. |

I like the idea of meeting and carpooling. Eric, that would probably be easier for you, as well. |

Sunrise for June 17th is at 5:31am...have we set a meeting time? I see we have some satellite meeting locations, is the final meeting place still the Lodge/Gift shop/Restaurant? |
