Is there any way to keep down hot pixles on long exposures, I didnt enter the night shot competition because all my shots had over 30 hot pixles in them!!! I can spot edit the shots but not in a basic competitions. The pixles become bad in any exposure over 6 seconds which is quite annoying.

You are using in-camera noise reduction?

I think the default in Canon Cameras is to have this function off?

My 30D was set to OFF when I got it...

Check your menus and custom functions or whatever you have and try to find something that allows you to use it... It takes a second frame immediately afterwards and subtracts the inaccurate results... It works VERY well on my camera...

I posted a 100 percent crop of a 10 second shot at ISO 640 the other day. Pretty scary stuff as it looks pretty close to tack sharp and the noise looks better than ISO 50 on my S2 IS.

Sorry, no link, I gotta get to bed! Forum search is your friend!

If that doesn't help, I'm sorry, I can't help any more...

Does neat Image have any special features for this?

Did you check the camera or the manual too? The manual should show some info on this in the index? I think my S2 IS has this on and off?

Sorry, I'm out of town or I would have a look myself at the manual online... sorry I can't help more...

You can also test to see if you have Noise reduction turned on by setting the camera to Tv and taking a picture over 1 second with the lens cap on and the lens on manual focus...

If it takes a picture and then goes busy for an equal amount of time, then you have noise reduction on...

If it doesn't take a second 'picture' by itself, it is turned off.

If it is turned off, it's not really surprising that you are getting noise all over the place... On the other hand if it is on, and you are still getting noise, this would indicate a small problem.

Nemesis is right, the 300D does not have in-camera noise reduction (neither does the 10D - ). Your only option is to edit them out in pp, which doesn't help you at all in basic-rules challenges.
