Please take note of the colour of my icon now. *twirls to show off her colours, then curtsies*
Due to the unexpected and unbelievable generosity of dear mk, I am now a full member! This just....... blows me away....
Now I have a lot of learning and work to do to fulfil her obvious faith in me and, though I can never repay what she's given me (far more than just monetary value) I'll do my best, and as soon as I can afford to I'll pass on her gift to another.
Again, mk, heartfelt THANKS. This, on top of my first top-10 and a PB, has made this an incredible day :D

You're quite welcome. :) I was impressed by the number of comments you've left in the short time you've been here...and especially how you've left many more than you've received. Good luck in those member challenges!

Duhh, of course MK rocks. Why do you think they have TWO special MK Signature versions of the Canon EOS 1D?

There's the EOS 1D MK I and the EOS 1D MK II... If you are lucky, you can even ask for an autographed version... or so I heard...

Maybe that only goes to the pro's though...

Leave Paradise? Heh. I went in search of other paradises.

I grew frustrated that everyone I met in Canada (ok, with a few exceptions) was so totally unaware of the rest of the world and so satisfied with that level of ignorance.

There is a certain distastefulness in the haughtiness of an entire society which prides itself on so many things, including knowledge, that actually doesn't have a clue about many realities of life.

Even those that have 'traveled' are often oblivious to the depths of other cultures that they have been exposed to.

I am here in Taiwan enjoying a fantastic learning experience that has allowed me a much deeper experience than I could have ever hoped to gain from brief travels.

It's been a great time and I don't intend to go back if I can possibly help it.

You would be amazed at the sheer number of cultures that exist out here that nobody has ever heard of outside of small areas of Asia. I'm sure the same exists all over the world.

Pretty great for the humility and perspective...

I do understand what you mean. I get so angry when I see travellers make no effort to understand or fit in to the culture where they are, but condescend to "allow" everyone to bend to theirs. I'd love to travel, but have no urge to visit the tourist resorts. I want to see the REAL country.
My nephew just left for at least a year in Thailand, and I envy him sooo much. Can't wait for photos, since he's a professional.
No, I think that over the years I've come to appreciate my corner of the world because of knowing a bit of other cultures, not despite it :)

Squawk 7500 - means hi-jack.

A pilot can "squawk" the code 7500 through an aircraft's transponders in a hi-jack emergency.
