This lens if MUCH sharper than the 18-55mm kit lens. I'll probably never use the kit lens again unless I really need wide angle. Here's a shot of my dog. Straight from camera no PP.

Whoa big photos... might want to put those as links.
Yeah, ya can't beat that lens for the price, though. I absolutely love mine.

I removed the links to the photos 'cause they're huge. Please add a link to them, or put them in your profile so we can use the thumbnail feature.
Thanks! |

Very crisp! I am also glad to see some posting with that fancy, new gear. Now pony up the $25 and get into some challenges.

How much did you pay for that lens/where'd you get it? I have the 50mm f/2.something on order, but I'd love to go faster. |

If only I could get my dog to stay still long enough to get a sharp shot with that lens. I've been trying since the day I got it. |

Okay, I'm book marking that. That's about what I was going to pay for the f/2.something. |

I just got my 350D Rebel XT last week with the kit lens. I was wondering if the lens was the reason for the not so sharp pictures or if it was me. This is my first DSLR after all.
After seeing your pics I think I need the 50mm 1.8 lens!!! |

depending on what you shoot you might want to go with the 85mm 1.8, that'll be my next lens purchase. with the 50 I have to get so far away to get a good frame unless it's only one person.
also with the crop factor the 85mm is really about a 50 anyways...
just some more info to stew on ;0) |

Hmm...I think you have it all backwards?
Why would you have to back up more with a 50mm than an 85mm? And the 85mm isn't really a 50mm because of the crop factor, it's actually a 136mm.

"Quite so." said Special K to SpecialK 0783 (my old nickname at work was 'special k'... don't ask :)
I am using the 50mm f/1.8 and the 85mm f/1.8. The first is mine and the second is borrowed.
I find that for most purposes, the 85mm is too long and I am always backing away. With kids, it's damn near impossible because as I back away, they come closer. Inside most rooms, you both have to be near the walls.
I've also got the kit lens in my bag, also borrowed.
Of all the lenses I've been using since I got the camera, probably 750 have been with the 50mm, 250 with the 85, 150 with the kit lens and maybe 100 so far with my 80-200.
Most of my pictures have been of kids as you can see. VERY sharp...
It is interesting because after taking 100 pictures with the 18-55, I liked it so much, I've almost changed my mind from getting the Tamron 28-75 to getting the Tamron 17-50... Nice range! Highly useful.

Yeah, it's definitely the lens. I was getting the same thing with my 30d and the kit lens. Now I just need a wide angle and a telephoto and I'm good. |
