Am I allowed to do "Filter > Distort > Diffuse Glow" (Photoshop) under basic editing rules?
If not I presume I can remove a picture and replace it with a legal one before voting starts?
Thanks,
Tim

I don't think that is allowed in Basic Editing :( |

Ooops. I don't want to break any rules. Better do it again without trying to be so fancy!

Diffuse Glow, or any effects filter, is illegal under Basic. Certain filters (listed in the rules) are specifically allowed, including Gaussian Blur.
Here's a technique, based on Gaussian Blur, that is Basic-editing legal:
- Edit>Blur>Gaussian Blur, set radius as desired
- Edit>Fade Gaussian Blur and set fade amount as desired
The second step must be executed immediatley after the first or you won't be able to do it (option will be grayed out). In order for this to be legal in Basic, it needs to be applied to the whole image, and the blend mode must remain in default "normal" mode.

I've found that you can get an interesting glow effect if you do as suggested above, follow it with abgressive USM also faded as suggested, and alternating the two in several passes through both. Clone off several new copies of the edited image and keep notes on amounts-of-effects added as you go, and experiment like crazy.

I've managed to redo my picture just by changing the levels. I presume this is legal?
Thanks for the help,

If you've gone from the original and just applied levels (to the whole image without any selections) then yes, its legal for basic editing!

Hey, I'm brand new here and pretty new to digital photography.
I just tried to enter a photo in the "Holy Places" challenge and the "Night III" challenge but was told I could only enter 1 or the other. I couldn't find the rule about this and just want to understand. Is it because these are "exclusive" or because you can enter only 1 photo per week.
I hope I am not too new for this site. Everyone's pictures are sooo impressive. I hope to learn alot.
Thanks,
BJ |
