Not mean at all. I think the same thing. Most shots don't convey a movie. Mine included. I was going to pull it out, but was not in time. So now I suffer. At least it's a good picture. I can use it as a stock shot someday. |

I agree, with some of the entries I've sifted through. Hell, I'm sure most of the people who see mine don't think "movie". It's more of a documentary-type film, but it's kinda hard to express that in a 3-word title :)
I think the inability to have text on the poster is making this challenge a really confusing one to grade. |

yes and no. i know i'm slowly learning pscs2, and am beginning to become comforatble with it. had i to put text on (i have done quite a bit of graphic work in the past) the pressure to do it well would have been immense. and i don't think i could have done it in the time alotted. (i bought the prop on friday, shot on saturday, and finished editting on sunday. 'cause i'm disorganised, and have a toddler)
the use of a subtitle in brackets is the best way to go, i think, for those that are more subtle (mine is definitely not!;-)).
mind you, it's all academic now, innit?

lol, don't swet it.. I've gotten hammered on my title. And here I was thinking the photo was the most important part :-|
Originally posted by nsoroma79: I'm not doing too bad.... but where in the submission guideline does it say that your movie has to be a certain type of movie? Hello, like Office Space is a super exciting title?
There are all types of movies. And not just movies for the theater... what about made for TV movies? There are all sorts of movies on ABC, Family Channel, Disney, National Geographic etc etc. We have to think out further. That is what I am doing.
So, yeah.... myabe I don't have an action thriller, but mine could be a movie!

You are misguided if you think there is a pure thing called "photography" that can be separated from "graphic design" and "marketing" and judged on that basis. The challenge was to make a movie poster (or a photo that could be used in a movie poster) and therefore I will use the criteria appropriate for that format.

I don't think my entry needs text to make it look movie-posterish. But then, I could be biased.. but I think it works well all by itself. |

Its my first member challenge entry and it is close to what I expected. I got one comment with good title and one with the title is a "bit of a stretch". They are probably both right... Hoping to end up with atleast a 5.75 because with that and my cliche entry I will have my overall 5.75 average. |

Dear everyone who hates my entry,
Okay, I get it. You don't like it.
Can you at least tell me why?
Cuz those two lonely comments are too complimentary for this score.

Yeah don't you hate that? Mine isn't doing well either and the 4 people that left me comments expressed the things they really liked about it. Unfortunately their PCs must have died before they got a chance to say why they weren't ranking it a 10. :P

I know it's a really weird challenge to vote upon, so I think most people just don't know what to say. But I'm pretty sure whatever they would say would be wrong anyway ;-)

I commented on all photos and it was difficult for me to make a good comment on the photos I voted lower. I've tried to write as much as possible what I liked about the photo and what could be improved or what seemed better to me. I feel that it's the best way, trying to say what is positive about the photo.

I ain't doing great on this one. I'm at 6.0 ...but the good part is that it started from 4.2 and has gradually risen to 6.0 in last six days. This is the first time I have seen scores going up by almost 2.0 points.

How could it have risen in the last six days when voting only started yesterday? (One day ago)

i've gotten some constructive comments, you being one of them...its actually stuff I already knew but it was the debate between two photos and of course this one is tanking but it fits well with the theme and I got a good title but the technical part of the photo completely sucks. The second photo I had was technically good but I didnt like the "look" of it. My score is 4.9 and I think its only that high because of the people who are having pitty on me for having a great idea but then screwing it up once again LOL!

I don't usually post much anymore, unless it's on a side challenge thread as I do love to compete and it is my main purpose for being at DPC; however, I have received many comments on my Cinema photo either hinting that it isn't legal or it is actually being stated so with conviction along with how I should go back and read the rules before submitting.
I think some of those commenters may need to be reminded of the rules themselves on voting along with the proper procedures. You are supposed to vote a photo as if it is legal and to let the admin's here do their jobs when it comes to validations and decisions on legalities. If you think some entries are illegal, then submit them for validation and save any comments along the lines of legalities until after challenges end.
With that said, I would hope that voters who vote (and comment) a certain way based solely on false assumptions on the legalities of a photo, that they will go back and reaccess the situation before challenge end.
This wasn't written to offend any particular members, (and unfortunately my writing does come across sometimes as being crabby...LOL..so I apologize if this comes off as such) but is only a gentle reminder of the rule set on voting and procedure. Had I received no comments that suggested voting and proper procedures on legalities weren't being followed, I wouldn't have felt the need to write this message at all. I feel quite a few photos suffer from simple rules not being followed and wrong assumptions, so I felt this just really needed to be said.
Thanks,
espy

I've just started voting and so far have come up with 3 images that some may find not legal - me? I love the lengths peeps to go to in order to keep legal but maybe not look legal.
I always vote as if an image was legal and if I think it may break rules they I'd request validation (I think I've done that once).
good luck ;)

That is very cool Ecce. I do the same thing. I won't speak for myself, however, there are a LOT of extremely creative members here at DPC, and I do feel that quite a few suffer by comment and even votes due to some just not following simple procedure. Comments are ok on wondering about a photo and how it was done, but I don't think it proper to say "this will be most likely be DQ'd" or "you didn't follow the rules".
I don't want to deter this thread any further from its actual purpose though, so if conversation is really wanted along the lines of procedure, maybe another thread can be started on it somewhere. In the meantime, I will let this rest and have this thread get back to results.
Thanks for your post though, and nice to meet you!

Who is the prankster that put you up against Larus! LOL....He is good! Then again, I have looked at your port and you are no slouch, so I am sure it will be a close battle! Good luck!!
Thanks Shanksware. I do miss posting, but when that happens I try to just step AWAY from the keyboard like a bad habit :) |

Here's my plan. Since I'm a bit disappointed in my score (and I usually don't mind when I get a disappointing score), I'm going to vote on a scale of 5-10 in this one. No 4's, no 3's. And I reserve 2's for those "did not remove lens cap" photos only, so definitely none of those. I realize one teensy vote won't change much, but I'll feel better. :-) |
