A couple of months ago a white van driver decided to use the back of my car as a parking space. It has been repaired and should be coming out of the paintshop next week. However, I am going to have to sell it later this year and buy something a little more practical.
I have always admired the technical perfection achieved in automotive advertisement, and fancy having a go at it myself while I still have something worth photographing. Fundamental to the style of photography is the lighting (studio plus huge softboxes). I think that it should be possible to hire a studio plus lighting for a reasonable fee. I therefore plan to hire a studio at some point this summer - say, mid-August. Location would depend on studio location. Subject to finding out more, the studio at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu may be an option ( //www.motoringpicturelibrary.com/studio.asp ).
While I would be happy playing with lights, camera and my car for a day, I thought that I would see if anyone else had a car that they wanted to photograph and was interested in joining me (and possibly helping out with the fees).
I am posting this late at night for the UK, so I will shamelessly bump.

I love taking pics of my car:
www.pix-al.co.uk/golf - Not really taken any worthy of adding to my photography site yet as good locations are quite hard to find!

As the owner of a Toyota Prius - moved loved by Jeremy Clarkson NOT - I am not sure I have a car I would want to "snap" but is there any chance of getting any of the collection at Beaulieu into the studio? I have shot in the museum before but with a point and shoot so the museum is intriguing for a lot of reasons.

I don't know - but it would be good, wouldn't it? I will make some enquiries.
If not, anyone would be welcome to take pics of my car or spend some time in the museum proper. |

I've got a Skoda. How much would you think that that is worth photographing?
Although a trip to Beaulieu (and Bucklers Hard (and Marwell)) sounds interesting. There are some really good places to stay nearby, particularly in Lyndhurst. I'd like to express my interest in outline.

Unfortunately, this is unlikely to be a group shoot after all: the resident pro is (understandably) concerned to make sure all equipment and (more importantly) any borrowed cars from the national collection are protected, which he cannot do with a group. Plus he said prep is likely to take a couple of hours, and more than one or two cars would be tough to manage in a day (and the floor would risk getting dirty with same day vehicle change over).
Further, my car has just come back from the paint shop with a number of issues that will need to be resolved (spots and marks to be removed) before I will plan the shoot for myself!
However, I will hopefully post some shots later in the year.
