red, green and blue would be more obvious... why these colors?

Blue, Red, and Yellow are traditional ribbon colors from old-time country/county fairs and similar competitions.

One could google it I guess..

Hold on - Where did you get that ribbon from? - I *demand* an SC investigation.

This got me questioning the ribbon colors we have - the question has never entered my mind before this forum thread. In my google search, all I could come up with are international horse show ribbon colors. It looks like at least the US has the same color ribbons for horse shows as for regular country fairs.

Biteme, why did you guess red, green, and blue instead of orange, red, and white that are listed for the Netherlands? Just curious :-)

Oh yeah again. Maybe it's just for horse races that first prize is orange.

orange IS a color of the netherlands (check world championships ;-))

why? I can't explain right now.. (just woke up ;-))

not sure that everyone is trying for a ribbon. that has never been my goal. (good thing too) lol

the goal of most people entering here i would imagine is more of a critiquing session. from people other than my mum. lol

our friends and family always say it is good. we need people (photogs) to tell us what they think. getting the why they think that is even better.

the challenges offer a way to inspire creativity in photographs. and having 200 entries allows us to see what other people have imagined (so we can steal) lol.

most of the time the people i give out high scores to fall much lower than those that i give just above average scores to. which makes me wanna strive more for the 30-50 range, not the 1-5 range. lol.

Well, I think a lot of people have said this, but I really like this site because it makes me think to figure out the challenge puzzle, and take pictures that I otherwise wouldn't have thought to do. Plus you get to, like tngrndream said, look at photos from around the world and get new ideas (to steal). and of course, I also like the competition... even though it is so slow and painful to watch your score go up up up a little bit and then bam! the next morning NO NO NO!!! please please please go up up up, Cooommmmeeoonnnnnn.... go up!! kind of how when you're at the races and you think that if you wave your arms in a paddling fashion toward the finish line, your car/horse/whatever will go faster.
