Looking at getting some better glass...but need help on deciding which one.

Looking at a telephoto and a macro. Mainly the canon 70mm-200mm f/2.8 lenses. The question is, is the canon f/2.8 IS USM really worth the extra $600.

And could anyone recommend a good macro lens, I've been looking at the canon 50mm f/2.5. Any other recomendations?

there have been loads of threads on if the IS is worth the bucks.

genearlly everyone says YES, unless of course you are planning to use it ONLY with a tripod.

I think I should have put more emphasis on the macro part.

Take Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro, i got this lens and it is really great. with extension tubes you will be more satisfied.
Sigma 105 is another alternate but i prefer Canon

About telephoto, i can buy one of these three
70-200mm f/2.8L USM
70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
70-200mm f/4L USM

I think i am going with IS even it is expensive because i know that i will never buy or need another one later, buy the best and you will rest, this is my philosophy

This image was shot handheld at 1/100S at 640mm (1.6 factor). According to the 'rules,' it should have been shot at 1/640. This was done with a 100-400L, a larger, heavier lens than the 70-200mm. I'm pretty sure, without the IS, it would be extremely soft. Is it worth it? Yes! The number of images you DON'T toss due to softness more than makes the money back over time.

Yes, get the IS. Well worth it.
