Who would have the biggest personal impact on complimenting your work and why that person?

Who would have the biggest negative impact and ditto?

Just curious. I had a compliment from the photo editor today and it really hit home. I was over joyed by the compliment and I just wondered who would impact my fellow DPC'ers in the same manner. Now had it been a negative impact it would not have had more impact than to come from a fellow photographer at the paper that I truly admire. I left the photogs name out for obvious reasons.

I always appreciate comments from BradP - whether they be positive or negative. I really appreciate him as a photog, and admire a lot of his work. Any compliment from him has a big impact as I feel there is so much I can learn from him. There are many others on DPC who also leave an impact. It really isnt who leaves the comment as much as it is how helpful the comment is though.

PeeCee, because he said the right thing at the right time. Rikki, because I really do love his portfolio, and Art Roflmao that man has soooo very much talent. Everyone here because their comments, both positive and Neg help me learn so much.

Really difficult to say, I love getting comments from everyone.

Comments from the masters always mean a lot to me, guys like Graphicfunk, Bear, and Kirbic, but guys with super creativity and sharp eyes like scalvert, DrAchoo and the bobstercrustaceousone have deep weight with me.

I do actually have a look at the commenter's profile when I respond (either returning the comment if they look like they are low on comments or a thank you note), and it does mean a lot if I see that they have a good eye. I've been really impressed with the artistic taste of many and it does add to the experience.

Incidentally, it was a "top notch" comment from Mr Bob Lob that got me so excited that I went out and bought the 30D off the street here in Taipei instead of waiting and buying it for 120 dollars US less from the factory in TaiZhong... In fact, it got me so excited about cameras that I didn't even think about that until a week and a half after the fact... :) I guess I paid 120 dollars to have it a month and a half early...

The really funny thing is that after getting the 30D, I discovered that the shot I took that he liked actually looks better coming from the S2! Hah!

But I've got 500 pictures in my 'to be edited' queue now that I couldn't have gotten with the S2...

Definitely Strikeslip. I am the proud recipient of two Golden Slippy Awards and I consider that the pinnacle of my photographic career - it's all downhill from here.

Now, Chit Rabbinton said some hurtful things and although you would think I shouldn't let the criticism of one five year old Hungarian boy get to me - it really hurt me to the core. I had to hide my face for weeks after that. :P

It's nice when someone new comments on one of your photos. Also, I've notice if your entry is doing well you'll start to hear from the big guns at DPC, which is also nice.

Now, I have no clue how you get comments from guys like Art Roflmao. If memory serves me correct I don't think I've gotten one comment from him in a challenge yet. :P However, guys like fotomann is pretty easy to get if you choose the right subject. Speaking of which, thanks cheese man for your comment earlier. ;)

Bear_music. Hands down, I consider him just about the most knowledgable person on the site, and I've never even recieved a comment from him. : )

I value comments, both critical and complimentary, from folks who ribbon or score well regularly, no one person in particular. Whenever I recognize a name in my comments, it gets a little more recognition and a little internal "yay!"

Likewise, I appreciate the comments I've received that were constructive when I was, uh, less than sociable about the state of things. Those folks have earned my respect for having the courage to deal with me at all, let alone be reasonable ;-)

Even more non-specifically, I value comments that not only tell me what I did wrong, but also point out what I've done well. I know I try to frame my comments like that when I have something specific to say about a photo since I appreciate it so much myself.

Slightly relatedly, I hope that folks appreciate my constructive comments, especially tonight when I've been trying to comment on a good chunk of the flower pics being posted in the "proof" thread I started this afternoon. (And if you see a seemingly random comment on a long silent flower photo, that's probably where it came from.)

Can't ignore THAT. Commented on the kitty, Thanks for the compliment, but Kirbic is so much more knowledgeable than me it's not even funny, and there's a whole BUNCH of really knowledgeable folks in here, so...

Without a doubt for me would have to be Ubique, and luckily for me, i happen to have him on hand for any critiques i need asap. He more then often points out things in my photos that i don't see, many many times he has helped me improve a photo from his wonderful words, he seems to phrase things that just sink right in and make sense. Even if it's a photo he doens't like, he will always point out the good and bad.....
He is a true Gem.... Thanks P. :))))))

As far as bad comments go, i don't think i've received one, i think any comment even if negative will always bring some positive, you may get a tad mad at first, but it will always make you think about what the person said, and improve it somehow.

Perhaps, but few have the knowledge hard-won from experience -- and fewer still willing to share so freely.

But, to answer the OP's original questions. I don't know who would have the biggest impact on me until they do; but I do know who's comment has had the biggest impact on me.

frumoaznicul

In the weeks prior to the 'Freedom II' challenge I had been studying his work -- particularly his B&W's, with their rich tones and textures. Getting his comment on my entry in that challenge; with his praise, a vote of 10 and choosing my image for a favorite sent me bouncing for a week afterward -- at least.
