I just bought my first DSLR (Rebel XT), but I've had a lens lying around from an older film camera for years. It is marked "mamiya/sekor sx 1:1.8 f= 55mm auto".
I'm wondering:
1. what is the focal length? (18-55mm, etc.)
2. what is the lens worth?
2. can this lens be used as a macro lens? (see the tutorial on reversing lenses for extreme macro shots at //www.dpchallenge.com/tutorial.php?TUTORIAL_ID=40)
Thanks.

1. It's 55mm, but won't work on your Rebel without an adapter (and then only in manual focus).
2. Do a search on eBay. Mamiya lenses are pretty high-end I think.
3. Sure. You'd just need a macro coupler ring, however doing so exposes the back of the lens to possible damage with the short focal distances involved. I'd sell it for whatever you can and use the Canon 50mm f/1.8 for about $70. It would be more "disposable" should you accidentally scratch it. |

1. The focal length is 55mm, no zoom.
2. Probably not much, an entire film camera with that lens included is going for $25 on ebay.
3. Most likely, just need to get the proper thread size and adaptor for it.

Thanks for the quick response! Any idea what the wide-end of the focal length might be? |

55mm, it's a prime lens meaning no zoom.
