can someone please clarify the ADEP feature on the rebel xt???

from my understanding... its used when u have subjects not on the same focal plane... so when metering, u can see the subjects that WILL be in focus by looking at the red dots flashing...anything out of the dots will be out of focus... does this mean it's "stretching" the dep of field band...

and i guessing u use ADEP to blur out the backgrounds in the group shots...

so using ADEP with a small aperature is kinda.... useless???

ADep evaluates the relative distances of as many objects in the field of view, and selects the best f-stop to give you sharp focus across the image.

ADEP is an automatic mode. The camera will set the aperture to get as many of the focus points in focus and then set the appropriate shutter speed.

It could be useful with group shots.

never used it actually. but the red dots flashing ARE telling you what the autofocus considers IN focus.

20d has it, too. it's mainly for landscape, and it tries to get as much in focus as possible. i find it easier to just shoot in manual or aperture priority and set a high number (small size) aperture
