so my boss and his girlfriend were walking from a golf course to a bus stop and along the way they found a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 lens on the side of the street, complete with hood and everything. he's not really into photography so he just gave it to me. i cleaned it up and tried it out and it works great. just thought i'd share.

I wonder if there would be a way to track down the owner with the serial number. Like if they registered it or submitted it to an insurance company.

I know it's a cool find and all but I'd hate to be the one that lost it and if I got a call from someone that they found it I'd be sooooo appreciative.

What would you want someone to do if they found a lens YOU lost?

Just a thought.

I have insurance on all my equipment and call my agent eveytime I buy something new. He gets the serial number for everything.

Sure I'd want them to send it back to me! On the other hand, I sure hope I can avoid losing my multi-hundred dollar pieces of equipment. I'm paranoid about leaving things behind, but now I don't feel so silly about it.

good thought, but honestly once i lose something i consider it gone and move on. might try it anyway since i may or may not have much use for this lens. i recently bought a 100mm f/2.8

Was it black, said Canon on it? I think it was mine. Ship it on over and I'll send you a cash reward - how about $100?
