yeah this down swing today seems more extreme then normal. something weird is going on. unless maybe its because some people arent familiar with some cliches and sayings and are voting down because they think it DNMC? i dont know. mine is a very common well known cliche, maybe not in other countires though. i didnt know some but voted only on the photo quality and assumed they all met the challenge. |

Okay, I'm not in this challenge so you can chase me out of here if you want. (I was going to enter, had my idea, got my supplies, then hit a rhythm one I just HAD to throw to the sharks.)
I haven't gotten far in my voting yet, but one thing I AM seeing is basically only part the saying illustrated, leaving me with no idea which it's meant to be until I read the title.
*disclaimer- This is off the top of my head and something I haven't seen YET (it might be there, just haven't gotten to it) so I'm in no way suggesting any specific picture. But it IS an example of the type of thing I'm noticing.
A picture of a cat. Nothing else obvious, just a cat. Okay, which saying is it referring to? Let the cat out of the bag? Cat got your tongue? Nervous as a cat in a roomful of rockers? Nine lives? The cat's meow?
See what I mean? It may explain some of the voting, tho' there's NO explaining some ;)
Having said that, I also see some wonderfully creative shots, and some that are quite simple but are "spot-on". Good luck to all, I will bow out again and go back to my own private whimpering over my score :D |

Don't get me wrong, I am over the moon to be in the 6's, a first for me, and I see myself improving constantly. But, today has been wicked!!! Went from a 7.0 to 6.4 in just hours. Getting great advise and good scores from many talented people here, but getting 3's and 4's from people who don't even have a camera registered and with no comments!!!! That's ok...(rant over) :O) I'LOOOOOveeee my 6's!!!
(does happy dance with self...)

man! my free study is dropping too i was in the 6's yesterday. now im at 5.8. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I can only hope someone is voting things low under several different user names just to be a jerk. they'll be found, votes thrown out and all our scores will shoot up to where they belong. lol wishful thinking. |

Started off last night with a 6.0000. If we're all suffering then at least we're all in it together. I do wish I knew why it's getting voted down though when all five comments have been overwhelmingly positive.

I say lets end voting early today and maybe tomorrow people will not be in shitty moods. Looks like DNMC voters have narrowed their views down to microscopic levels and as always no comments left. The three comments I have gotten totally get the photo which couldn't be any more obvious. Btw, if the phrase/saying/cliche is not something that common to you please give the benefit of the doubt and just judge the photo on it's merits. It's not hard.

Heh.. I just got a comment that something about my cliche might be too obscure for some people - but isn't that the case with all cliches and folk sayings? Everything is colloquial. In Spanish they don't say that "you're pulling my leg" - their equivalent is "you're taking my hair". In Italy, "Blame the government!" is the most common response to every complaint ("It's raining! BLAME THE GOVERNMENT!"), but Americans aren't going to be familiar with that (disclaimer: I have no idea if these are being used in the challenge - I haven't had time to go through the entries yet). Basically, every entry is going to be obscure to someone - and if you were smart enough to get it, don't assume that others will be too dumb to do the same. Okay? Okay!
That said, my score has been tanking all afternoon.

And that, my friends, is why comments are going the way of the Dodo and folks must be bribed with a special challenge to make them. |

This is a first for me.
Started at 5.5, dropped to 5.2, back up to 5.5, now up to 5.76! Personal best territory!
I hope it keeps climbing! It would be nice to get a 6...
Funny thing, the pic I took, I tried with the 30D and the S2 IS. I ended up going with the shot from the S2... Can't say more, but will probably post more details after the challenge.
Only 2 comments though.
Incidentally, in the voting, I did not find it necessary to drop my vote for a DNMC if it was a cliche/saying that I am not familiar with, but if it is something that I am familiar with and the picture just appears to be a picture with a title slapped on it, with no special relevance to the cliche itself, I voted it down.
Still reserving my 1's and 2's for the rare "truly awful AND DNMC" pics... If it meets the challenge and is truly awful, it's a 3. I think there's only one 1 so far, maybe two...
... but there are PLENTY of pics rolling around in there that have titles that match the challenge, but pictures that don't match the title... |

I must admit that I didn't choose an extremely well know term, not as popular as many of the other challenge entries. But did come up with the title first and then the photo, and IMHO ;) they fit perfectly well together. |

I am amused by the validation request. I have no idea how anyone could think my entry was illegally altered! And after seeing what else is out there and looking at my own totally mediocre score, I seriously doubt anyone is feeling threatened by it. Heh!
