I usually don't do this, but this one has been bugging me all week. I fully expected this to score around the low to mid 6 area. Boy was I wrong. It usually doesn't do any good to post, but I'm asking anyway. Why did this score so low? 6 people gave it a 1, 8 a 2 and 27 a 3. I'm baffled by this. So please explain.

I have a thick skin. Rip it to shreds, just tell me.

Well, to start, look at the votes of the people with no cameras, how different it is from the people with cameras. BIG DIFFERENCE there!

I would have scored it a 6 if I had gotten to it, it's nice, it's clear and the colors are very well done but the mask, the way it's cut around the eyes and mouth really bothers me, it's not in sync with her face and her expression doesn't really seem to fit the title, to me. When I think Blue Bayou, I think of sad, down, mellow, she looks more bored or ticked than the other.

But again, it's the trolls with no cameras who come in and vote everyone down but their friends.

Hey, in all honesty it does not strike me as a pleasing foto. The mask and the blue hair mostly. It seems unnatural... not sure how to put it. I bet if your model had a painted blue face with slicked back hair, thi would have scored a bit higher.
Just my 2 cents.

BTW, I always think all my shots are gonna win ribbons when I enter challenges. the voting almost immediately change my mind. I chalk it up to me really being satisfied with my own work which at the end of the day is really all that matters.

Saw that one. It gave me some satisfaction.

Tried to vote on all challenges this past week, didn't make it thru this one. Would have at best given this shot a 4. It's just not appealing to this viewer... Just the way I see it...

I voted it a 7, meet the challenge to a tee. Darkness around the eyes kept me from rating it higher, not a bad pic at all! I think it was a strange scoring challenge myself and I still don't understand how I fell from the Mid 7's with 25 votes to 5.8 It does leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I thought that the composition was good and that the colors were spot on for this challenge. The only things that really disturbed me were the holes around eyes and mouth and the texture of the mask. Now, I wouldn't really fault you too much for either of those things....we have to work with what we have.

I didn't get to vote on all the images in this challenge, but I probably would have given a 6 or 7 because the technical aspects of this photo are good. In order to make it pop more, I might suggest using face paint instead of a mask, or perhaps painting a bit around the holes in the mask to make the transition less stark.

It's got to be the creepy factor. I've done 2 other shots that were creepy and they didn't do well either.

Thanks for all the comments guys!

Yeah, I think it's the creepy factor....maybe it's hard for a lot of people to see "creepy" and say "Wow!" I dunno. Like I said, I thought it was a technically sound photo that showed some good creativity for the challenge.

You just never can tell, can you? Just as I think I start to get a handle on how the voters think, my scores prove me wrong (ala Negative Image)....I suppose it's all an excersize in independence for me :-)

Odd.. even with the creepy factor I'd never have pictured this under a mid-5.

Something about the way the hair plays with the orange background though.. looks off.. fake almost.. maybe that contributed.
