any ideas how I can batch convert a large amount of images (100+) to PICT? this is for a final cut project and it seems pict is what final cut likes.

try a photoshop batch. what you have to do is use the actions palette to record a new action - in this case saving a photo as PICT. after you record the action, go to file > automate > batch, and in this menu, choose your new action, and the folder to send it to, etc

i hope this helps... actions can be confusing, so if you have a hard time, ask me

i'll try it now. i'm somewhat familiar with actions (at least creating simple ones). will post the results in a bit.

on a side note, anyone know why or if Final Cut Pro prefers PICT files over JPEGs?

Irfan View can do it. Although I'm not too sure about the conversion quality. What format are the original pics in?

GraphicConverter is like a Swiss Army knife when it comes to batch-converting image file formats (and all sorts of editing too). You'll find it on all the usual Mac shareware sites.

Magnus is right. graphic converter is the way to go if you're on a Mac.

well, i guess that's another reason to get a mac...
here i am thinking photoshop is the best way... knowing macs, it probably takes a fraction of the time
