I think I prefer the first one. I like the sense of space it gives. The second feels a little cramped, although that might just be in comparison to the first. Nice shot either way.

I like the first one. It gives the photos a sense of scale, and doesn't make the image darker overall.

I like 2 best. Lack of interest in the foreground on the first provides less interest on the first. The second, panorama view gets right to business and still has the nice seperation of thirds (water, orange strip, grey/yellow strip).

The second while economical loses some nice information and scale that the first holds.

I prefer #1.

I prefer #1, although the blurred boat doesn't do a lot for me. What do you think about something like this?

#1 !

Somewhere in between. There are two white streaks in the water, crop just below the lower one.....

edit: ... and leave the sky the way it is in the first image.

The boat was supposed to be there. Its a ferry docking to the terminal. I personally like the fact thats its blurred because it gives it a sense of motion. They way you cropped it also nice; it makes the photo very peaceful (too peaceful for my taste) which might or might not be a good thing.

Oops, Sorry. Didn't mean to offend. You're probably right about my crop. Peaceful can translate to "boring", which I'm notorious for;)

On any count, I really like the color contrast and the silhouettes. It's a shot you should be proud of. Nice job.

Nothing to be sorry of, you didn't offend me at all. Thank you for your comments.

Number one: By cropping off the top like you do in the second version, you lose a lot of variation in the pink tones of the sky. Granted, by cropping it off you bring the viewer's eye into the dark city more, but by the same token, in leaving it uncropped you allow the lighter sky to act as a counterpoint to the darker city.

I like the 1:2

The bottom one.

It gives isolation and a clear point of visual focus... not a lot of "useless overhead"

I am finding that "not normal" crops dont work very well for the DPC crowd ... but my customers love them ... makes things look "unique"

Thank you all for the wonderful feedback. I've been having an argument with my gf about cropping. Personally I preferred the second one more, but I guess most people here like less cropping.

I have 2 more photos that we've been arguing about. I'd like to get some feedback as to which people prefer.

1.1

or 1.2

2.1

or 2.2

Thank you
