I was talking with a colleage of mine and he mentioned trying to exhibit in a local coffee shop for a couple of months. He said that he would provide the frames and that this particular cafe' does this on a regular basis. The idea behind it was that people would see your work when they came in to order their coffee, do their homework or whatever people do when they come into coffee shops.
Has anyone ever done or heard of anyone doing this? If so, how did it go? Pros/Cons?
Thanks! |

it's a great way to get exposure. i've had over 30 prints hanging in a downtown diner for almost a year now. i haven't sold any off the walls, but the visibility/exposure is tremendous, and i've gotten other work as a result of people seeing my work there.
here's one of the shots
there are more here.
if it doesn't cost you anything, there are relatively few cons. my biggest beef is keeping the frames clean and straight (after all, it is a 24/7 diner). |

I'm sure Skip said something about free food in exchange for photos. All the greasy diner food you can eat! Now that's a great payment

I've done it before. Even if you don't sell anything directly from the exhibition, you'll get some exposure and a really cool buzz from seeing your stuff up on the walls.
I also had an interior designer call me inquiring about getting one of my shots in a much bigger size for one of her clients. Luckily it was on 4x5 so it enlarged to 32x40 easily.

"Has anyone ever exhibited their photos?"
Title of the thread hooked me.
At a coffee shop - no. But it may be a good opportunity to sell some framed prints or make some contacts - as skiprow said, if you have the time and or if you like the coffee.
I must add we should not underestimate the exposure we get here - On this site - yes, on a 24 hr basis. |
