Just recieved a brand new in the box Canon dSLR and found (to my not significant surprise) 12 specks of dust on my sensor!!?!

Seems to match how much arrived on my 10D and 300D sensors, I'm wondering now if Canon intentionally includes them at no additional cost? Maybe I should have saved them instead of cleaning it off...

Try selling it on ebay! :)

... they say there is a buyer for everything on there.

On a serious note, I'd be really surprised if I received a DSLR without dust. The assembly floor conditions are not likely to be a class 1000 or better cleanroom, and the body cap has no seals. Air will enter and exit during shipment due to pressure and temperature changes, and with it will come dust.

I had Canon put a brand new sensor in my 20D and it was covered with dust. No surprise at all. Get a Copperhill sensor cleaning kit.

Got the Copperhill, been using it since the debut of the 10D. Just realised all my Eclipse is gone though... sigh. Anyone know a place on the west coast that sells it?

Pictureline, in SLC, has Eclipse in stock. I just bought some there last Friday.

Uh oh, guess I shouldn't have used my tried and true blower brush... at some point it aparently filled completely up with dust. Now I went from 12 specks of dust to 12 specks of dust per pixel. Doh!

Almost enough to make me laugh... i'd post a pic but I don't want to cause any heart attacks!

Ok, so evidentally the dust Canon included with my camera was treated with some super adhesive substance because it doesn't want to come off.

I cleaned my 10D sensor maybe 50 times, and sometimes it took a few passes but it always worked.

I've cleaned this one 10 times in a row with only a minor reduction in the dust, I'm going to give it another try and hope for the best.

I've NEVER had to send a camera to Canon for cleaning, let alone a 1 week old one and hope I don't have to start now.

Sigh...

Ok, 12th time is the charm. I got the vast majority of the dust off using a toothbrush and some comet. Anyone know how to get comet off a sensor?

Seriously though, I got most of it and will quit while I'm ahead as I can live with whats left.

My Nikon D70 didn't come with a speck of dust....I had to put it there all by myself.
