I agree with your general idea here, however, be careful how you judge "Photojournalism" I too was a photojournalist for many years. If you've ever worked for a major paper or wire service then you know that ANYTHING can make the front page.
You commented on my entry that it didn't really fit a news story. Photojournalism covers so much more than news. There's sports, fashion, feature, weather, etc. IMO the subject "Photojournalism" is too wide open. Also, the contest rules mentioned magazines too. So now you can include travel, computers, or any magazine subject.
just my 2 cents worth. |
I took into account all the subsets of photojournalism you mentioned. If I made a comment about not being able to connect, you more than likely left some holes in the "story" that I couldn't find an answer too. It might also mean that I as a viewer didn't share the same point of reference as yourself.
But, once again, let me state that my comments were only my gut feeling what I though made the photo or what could have made it better. Negative comments doesn't mean I gave you a bad vote.
I'm going to open a thread after the challenge for clarification of my comments and offer critiques.
BTW, if you have the time, I'm sure the entrants in this challenge would love to have comments from someone other than an ex-journalist turned goofball (me). :-) |
I'm afraid I've joined the ranks of the ex-photojournalist turned goofball myself. (Funny how the money is better in the goofball world!)
I'm pretty new here, still trying to find my way. I must confess that after looking through many past challenges, I don't always understand how some photos score high and others score low. Most times the top photos are well deserved, some really amazing stuff. Other times I scratch my head wondering how a certain photo made it or didn't make it.
I was turned on to this site by a colleague that works for the same company in another country. It's been a lot of fun. I've missed shooting on deadline and this gives me that kind of sensation. I've tried to enter as many challenges as I can. Hopefully I'll get my edge back soon and get some higher scores. I've never been a good editor of my own work.
I look forward to our thread after the contest ends. Good luck fellow goofball!
