So I found americanframe.com. But I'm curious, does anyone here build their own frames? I'd like to know where people who do get their molding from. Seems like in the long run this would be the cheaper way to go. Thanks for any input. |

I have heavy metal frames built and sell them at $150 each. I also rent them out for shows. They cost me next to nothing to have made but make up for losses in my photography :) (not that I'm actually selling any work in public) |

Where do you have them built? How do they look? |

I have them built all to the same size at a blacksmith shop and have my photo's printed to fit smaller then the frame. They are all brushed steel altho lately I have been painting then flat black or clear coated. They are approx. 2inch flat steel and are heavier then hell. I'll try to take a photo of the frame I'm letting rust to show you. (you'll have to wait for it as I am not near it at the momement) |

It does come with the glass and wood backing but not anything else for photo related. He also gives discounts on bigger orders then one (ie. like maybe 10) if your interested. Or ask thru emails and tell him I sent you.
edit to add: he does custom work so if you want a bigger or smaller size just tell him.

If I get in touch with him, I'll be sure to mention your name; it's always a good idea to keep good customer relations with these people :-)

They are a little heavy but very nice and well constructed. |

I'm working on making my own from scratch using a router table - no molding. Not there yet, but trying. There are about as many intricacies to making good frames as there are to using Photoshop. |

A router table, miter saw, biscit joiner, some pipe clamps, for the wood ones. I make most all mine, also done some with channel aluminuim, but I need to work on better tighter joints on the Alum ones;) |
