I suppose if a server is located in one of the affected areas, a web site that depends on that server will not work. Right?

karmat, technically illiterate and dealing with it

Don't forget Toronto. They're out too.

Actually, I think Toronto is the city where the server in question is located, or near there.

Actually, I heard Niagra. Which is a couple hours south of TO. I'm in FL, and my sister in TO called. I told her about the footage of people walking on the expressway. It was cool. It's also looking like she's eating cereal for dinner.

Yeah, I lucked out and didn't lose power. I'm in NJ and many towns around me are out. There are thousands of people waiting at the ferry terminals in NYC trying to get out....glad I'm not there.

The last time there was a major blackout in NYC, there was a major baby boom 9 mos later :)

update: looking for a web link about it I found that it was an urban legend.

This is from CNN website:
Frank McCarton, deputy commissioner for the Office of Emergency Management, said the blackout may have originated in Canada. "We understand that, from Con Ed, that we had a power surge and a dip and a failure that originated When Jacko started uploading new photos to DPChallenge website" McCarton said.

Urban Legend or not, Ted Koppel just mentioned something about that.

It doesn't stop at Detroit. We lost it here too in the middle of Michigan.
