I`m thinking about retiring my old olympus c2020 and getting a Nikon d50 to use mainly just for infrared photography.
I see here that`s it is quite sensitive to ir light.
Just wondering if anyone here has tried.

I can see why you're confused. It doesn't give any details just examples.

These three seem to think it's straight forward, slap an IR filter on the lense:

This one instructs you how to remove the the existing filters that blocks IR (much more complicated):

What you really want for IR is a Canon 20Da. It's made for exactly that. It would be FAR more sensitive to IR than the D50 unless you removed the D50's hot mirror. Obviously, the 20Da would also be compatible with your Canon lenses :-)
The downside is that the 20Da is pricey. It would probably be cheaper to buy a 20D body and have it modified. There are folks out there that will do this as a service.

Yes i agree the canon 20Da would great but as you say it`s pricey.
Having the nikon d50`s hot mirror removed is a good option which i may look into. It would be nice to be able to use without the need for a tripod.
Thanks.
