You're the second person to ask this, and 10 seems to be working really well for us, so I would really encourage you to perhaps open a thread calling for applicants to a "Trading Post II" or whatever you want to call it. You're welcome to post here, but you might get more interest by opening a new thread and trying to get some involvment that way. I'd love to see two or three more groups doing this. It has worked wonders already for the amount of feedback I'm getting on my pictures, and I REALLY appreciate everyone's involvement. I just picked a couple of people that I thought would be interested and specifically invited them, and everyone else came on board of their own free will.
It would probably work best if each group uses their own thread, to avoid confusion about who is speaking to whom. But I really don't mean that to sound "exclusionist", just "convenient." I'm glad you're interested, but I personally like the group size of 10 and would like to keep it. |

I went back to my windows shot and added a comment to explain what I was attempting to do. Since only two of us put entries in for the moment I thought I would paste the comment here to see if any of this was seen (or whether it was simply too obscure, or poorly executed).
BTW, there is no need to respond to this post. Since you all have been so thorough with your critiques, I don't expect you all to respond to this "extra" rehashing of my picture or to spend alot of time on this...I just thought I missed the boat so badly you might be interested to know what was going on in my mind at the time.
Comment:
"This shot obviously failed (especially without a tripod to help me sharpen the focus - although the thick plate glass window hinders a sharp focus too). Having said that, this was the intent... I had a polarizer lens on the camera and intentionally left all of the reflections (which most people found distracting) in the image because one of the reflections was the face of "her man" in the lower right corner. I left the line in the glass in the shot (after experimenting with cropping it out) because I wanted an artificial division between the mannequin and the real man...a sort of contrast between artificial person and real person. If I had cropped the line out or reduced the reflection to improve the clarity I would have lost the point of the shot. So I went with this one. I guess the failing is that it doesn't work. I need to rework either the idea or the execution, or both. I knew I would be hammered for this shot (I have tried something similar with a mannequin before and was scored down) but I still wanted to test the idea. Nothing ventured, nothing gained...or even learned. Your comments are appreciated because the learning part is critical for me. Thanks."

Got one in negative - very positive comments but score aint amazing (still respectable). Seems to be the way my entries are going at the mo. May post a couple of outtakes for complementary tomorrow.
Slight chance I may not get an entry in to the open tonight - have a couple to edit, but Lost returns on TV tonight (in the UK) so thats my priority lol.

So far, it looks like:
kdsprog - CCIII
Louis - Neg
Kirsty - Neg
Tim - Neg
Melethia - Neg
DanSig - Neg
Eric - CCIII
I won't be up for rollover, and even if I am, it's past my bedtime so I wouldn't have time to comment. Durn day job takes, well, most of the day, so I won't be able to comment until I get home from work tomorrow.

I have an interview bright and early tomorrow, so I won't be up for roll over tonight either. My commenting will probably be late afternoon. |

Unfortunately I won't be able to submit for any of this week's challenges. I was really hoping to do something in Rhythm, but what with the craziness at work the time got completely away from me. As for Clichés and DPC Cinema, they're really not challenges I'd do well in.
I tried a few setups tonight for Rhythm, but it didn't work well. I can't bring myself to submit just for the sake of getting something in. I'd just rather wait for next week. So this is just a heads up that, although I'll be commenting on everyone's submissions for this week's challenges, I won't be having anything for you other than Negative. :/ |

Just to say if I haven't commented within a day of rollover, its not that I've forgotten/given up, I'm just not a particularly organised person. They'll be in before next rollover, promise - in fact as soon as poss, but some weeks that'll be later than others.
Thanks for comments people

That's perfectly fine. I would encourage everyone to basically try to work this way; there's no real need for the comments to be in within 24 hours of rollover, or even within a week, but if we get behind, it's often hard to catch back up. Sooner is nicer, but sooner is not at all a requirement.
Thank YOU! :) |

I think Bernard wants to keep this group to 10, but there have been at least a couple others interesting in doing the same thing. Why don't you start a thread called "Critique Trading Post II" or something similar and get another bunch of 10 together? A group of about 10 seems to work well so far - not too many to try to keep track of who has what in which challenge. |

I would like to limit the group to 10, but I've found three others who have posted that they are interested....
Rooster
Gunnsi
yanko
I would recommend PMing them for starters and then starting, like Melethia said, a "Trading Post 2" thread and seeing if there's more interest. I'm loving it, because I am getting incredibly more feedback than ever before.
This is not intended to be a replacement for the CC - they need help, because that queue is LONG every week, but if you like the "guaranteed feedback" of maintain a trading post, it's great.
Sorry, we don't mean to be unfriendly, but IMHO, letting anyone else in now would be a bad precedent and soon the whole thing would be out of hand, which means that everyone would have 50 images to critique in return for 25 or 30. That's not what we want. I like 10 and prefer it to stay there because it works well. Now, if anyone in the current group would like to give up their spot, we can discuss that and possibly the group would vote to allow a replacement. |
