Hi
I have tried different ways to remove background but when i remove and create a digital background , it doesnt look natural , more like a case of a good cut and paste but still one can make out
I am able to create good digital background but not able remove unwanted background that easily

I'm getting a sense of deja vu here.

I'm sure there's a thread somewhere discussing this subject, I just can't find it. The main recommendations I remember were to get it right at the time of shooting i.e. use a backdrop/sheet behind the model, and get the lighting right. This will cut-down on the amount of post-processing you have to do, and make it more natural looking.

That's it, I remember now. You've got a photo of a woman standing in front of a door where you used on-camera flash. Is this the one?

Do you have the opportunity to re-shoot?

It will save you a lot of time. Replacing the background in PS and making it look convincing can be quite difficult and time-consuming. You'd be better off re-shooting with the correct background to start with.

I use a mask and mask out the BG. Lets you do all sorts of edge treatments (you can blur the mask, use hte smudge tool, different brush shapes, etc.)
Also, once you have your selection it helps to shrink it by 1 or 2 pixels.

Oh man I hate to show this original...but here goes

and the final product (BG is render:clouds in PS)

Found a totally sweet video tutorial on advanced selection techniques in CS2 from a website called Radiant Vista.

I wish they would do more stuff oriented towards PS 7.0.

It's going to be a while before I can afford to upgrade my computer to something that can handle CS2.

Nonetheless, I learned a lot about how to do many things that actually work in PS 7.0 as well.

I think that a lot of those selection techniques will work quite well.

An excellent book that will give you all the info you want on advanced extraction of images is...

Digital Compositing for Film and Video by Steve Wright; Focal Press

It is compatible with PS and talks about using advanced Alpha Channels.

Things like hair, tree branchs, fractles of any sort will look way better than just using the extraction tool, masks, magic wand and the such.

It will let you use the potential of PS, and you will use less of your drawing abilities.
