Okay, this is most likely a dumb question but here goes. How do I set my lens (focus)to infinity? TIA

Turn your lens focus to the infinity symbol. Also, to keep it from autofocusing, turn the little switch on the front bottom right to M.

turn autofocus off, (switch on the left hand side of the lens with AF/M) and turn the lens focus ring until it's on the little 8 on it's side.

Or with AF on, point it at the mountains and hold your shutter button halfway down

Rotate the focus ring all the way to the right. There is also an infinity sign on lenses, it looks like a horizontal eight. BTW if your using a genuine NIkon lens you don't have to turn the autofocus off, you can just rotate the focus ring. (The small ring closest to the camera body).
