I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me a good website for buying a DSRL. There are so many sites out there, it can be difficult to choose.

Definitely check your local yellow pages for camera stores and any place that might carry second hand gear. It might not be the best place to pick up a body (I paid an extra 200 dollars US to get brand new, factory proper rather than grey market too), but it might be a fantastic place to get 2nd hand lenses.

Do your homework before buying any lenses I'd say.

There's huge potential to save money in 2nd hand lenses. Of course, there's potential to screw things up too, like by paying more for inferior lenses...

A friend of mine picked up a sigma 70-300, thinking it was the newer APO version... Oops. Gave it to his brother though and bought another one...

Generally, it's a good idea in the long run to get lenses this way though...

Start with your local dealer. But check prices with the big internet shops. I use 25(%) as a rule of thumb. If the local store is not (Roughly) $250 or 25% higher than the internet stores, I give them the benefit of a doubt.

That might be a good rule to follow, especially if your local store has a good return policy.

B&H is great. Adorama is good, buydig.com is cheap and reliable.

Check out Fredmiranda.com, their Buy/Sell and other forums are great. Awesome info in some of their wedding and photojournalism boards too.

Make sure you buy from someone who has at least 100 posts or so.

Be sure to check out //www.resellerratings.com/ before buying online. Read comments about stores from other buyers before purchasing.

Exactly. Bargain basement resellers include Dell (with coupon codes) and any vendor listed on Dealcam.com. For memory cards, look no further than newegg.com or zipzoomfly.com. For almost any other lens or camera accessory, you go to B&H.

Check out //www.dpreview.com for indepth reviews on almost every digital camera ever made. When you are ready to buy, take a look at //www.craigslist.com, //www.keh.com or for new equipment //www.adorama.com, one of the best online companies going today in my opinion.

I just picked up an Olympus E-300 2 lens kit for my gf from Cameta Camera, a very active eBay camera dealer. Incredibly low price ($445 for 2 lens kit) and great service, I'd highly recommend them.
