This shot could be made better. Overall, the branch is soft, and parts of it look like they have motion blur - two things that voters do not respond well to. A faster shutter speed to eliminate the blur, and a bit of post-processing might help. The colors are vibrant, which is a good thing. The other other comment I can make is that floral shots (flowers, trees, leaves, etc) are sorta' disregarded here to some extent, because they are so common and show up in most challenges. Not saying this is right or wrong, just the way it is.
If I had come across this in voting, I would have given it a 5, beacuse of the blur/softness. And also because, while it is a good image, it is somewhat conventional. New growth in the spring, m'eh, okay, but where's the punch? What makes this so new that it's worthy of a shot?
Taking that last step and looking for a punch with a photo is darned hard, I'm still struggling myself, but it seems to be what sets the top images apart from the rest of them.
