Deep dark depression
Excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck
I'd have no luck at all
Gloom, despair and agony on me...
The dRebel just broke on me. The little mirror behind the big mirror that redirects light to the autofocus won't pop up when the big mirror pops up. This means that it blocks the light going to the sensor plane... Anyone have this happen? Is there a quick fix? Can I clean everything in there with a blower or brush? Am I screwed? I think it's the last, but I'm a worst case scenerio kinda guy...
Can someone make me happy again? |

Is there a way to reset it? Maybe take the battery out for a while or something? Maybe give it a good shwack...

I'm With Quinn... sounds like it needs a good Shwack ;-) Is it still under warranty... I'd contact Canon, maybe checkout there site or related sites for troubleshooting methods. Good luck!

Did you fix the lens? Just checking...I'm always worried that my D70 will break. I usually get the bad feeling right after I buy some glass or flash or some other accessory.
I'm almost to 10000 shots with it and it will be a year 4/28/06.
Hope you get it fixed.

If I pop the little mirror up, I don't have any autofocus or focus confirmation, but I can use manual focus and it works ok... |

Is it still under warranty? This happened to me. I went to Best Buy service department and they immediately swapped it for one out of the box. |

Dont worry Ron, I'll let you carry my equipment at the GTG so you'll have something to do. I may even share my 20D on a seperate CF card. ;-)

There should be a tiny spring that connects the big mirror on the front to the smaller one just behind it. This spring is the only thing that makes the little mirror retract upward with the bigger one up front. If your big mirror is moving all the way and the little one doesn't follow... I'd say you either had your spring pop off (which has happened to me before), or it broke. Look and see if you can find it. |

There's a little spring that makes it pop back down when the mirror goes down... |

It should come with a year or two-year warranty. As long as you have the receipt, you can send it to canon.
A line of pixels went dead on my sensor, so I paid the $10 shipping charge to send it to the canon service department, and got it back good as new in about 12 days. Didn't cost me anything other than to ship it there. |

Fritz... you are just too, too funny. But you realize this proves just one thing... that you are... welllll.. OLD... if you remember something like that. LOL!
I found out about that only after some serious Net research. ;) You don't expect a young, with it, cool whipper snapper like me would actually remember ol' Junior Samples do you? Did you know there is a music group named that now?
Bummer about the camera. Hope it is not serious and is easy to get fixed.
