Ok, one of the questions I have been wondering about the backpack I bought with my new camera last week is How does it fare in heavy to torrential rains?
I had an hour commute on a 150cc scooter this morning that started out with overcast, and very light rain that as I climbed into the mountains surrounding Taipei became a heavy (although not what I would call torrential as visibility was still fairly decent) rain, very close to torrential levels.
Here's a quick classification for my personal definitions so you know what I mean.
Mist - tiny droplets
Very Light rain - you can feel drops, but they are so few that you don't really get wet
Light rain - rain is falling enough to get you barely wet in about 5-10 minutes at the top layer of clothing, but being in a dry environment for 5 minutes will dry you out.
Normal rain - it's officially raining and you will get wet if you stay out long enough.
Heavy rain - big drops, and lots of them. Being outside for 5 minutes will render you completely soaked, filling your shoes with water and wetting you 'to the bone' as it were. Nothing is safe. Your wallet, your phone, your underwear, everything will be soaked. Visibility is still 200m+
Torrential rain - Visibility is impaired and is under 200 feet. If you are outside in this for more than 30 seconds, you will be completely soaked. This is more water than your shower puts out.
Anyhow, I was quite concerned about the jacket's performance.
I need not have worried. It worked perfectly and under the jacket was as dry as can be. |
