Are you looking for a monolight kit setup or a hot light setup?

For hot lights, you can get a decent setup from B&H for around $209. They have TONS of different monolight setups ranging from $400 - $4,000. Check out the kits there and I am sure that you will find something you like. I spent a good hour today looking at them and still not sure which setup is best.

ps. Alienbees also makes a good setup, but for some reason I'm just not sold on them.

edit: What is your budget?

my budget is about 2000, i was under the impression through my reading that strobe/flash, hot lights are constant light correct, that will make it really hot in my extra room wont it,

I recently bought the Elinchrom D-lite 4 kit which consists of 2 lights 2 stands & 1 silver & 1 white shoot through umbrella.
Good stuff to play with and learn on. Start small and see what works. You will wuite quickly get an idea of what you need.
By the was, I can recomend the Elinchroms. Good price & good quality / functionality

Tell us what sort of photography you are interested in doing, how big your studio will be how many people you want to photograph & then it is easier to help you.
Don't say insects & trucks as this is a little difficult / expensive to get in one package.
