You can get flash extenders but IMO it's not worth it to try and shoot with a flash that far away. Something I've done (just recently) is set a SB600 near the stage and then shot with an SB800 from the back balcony of a church.
The SB800 lit up the main part of the church fairly well and the SB600 lit the stage (remotely). It worked well except I should have had a defuser on the stage flash.
Obviously you should only do this in situations when you can trust that no one will walk off with the remote flash ;) |

Flash with telephoto is fine, its the range your talking about, if your within 15-20 feet or so flash should help much mmore than that and is pretty much worthless. |

That has been my experience, the further from the flash the more diffuse the light becomes and does not seem to help much...and can even wind up making some things like the back of peoples heads be highlighted and still cause red eye while not adding much else to it.... |

Building your own flash bracket should be pretty easly using some 1/8 in by 1-1 1/2 in aluminum flats (I know this stuff well while I am building my camper). just need to bore out the hole for the screws (available at all big box stores-along with the aluminum), bend it up (google annealing aluminum-pretty easy, but can be tricky) and mount it. With tht D70 and commander mode would work great!
By the way, after annealing aluminum....don't grab it or pick it up! My first trial piece I was working on, I got it too hot and it just "breaks" (technically falls off), and was "Hey that looks cool!" Bent over to pick it up and sizzle! I dropped it pretty fast when my brain told me that "that is HOT!" Didn't burn me, but it was so damn hot that it took my fingerprints right off and left them on the piece of aluminum. :)

As far as flash brackets go, I LOVE my
Stroboframe Quik Flip.
It allows me to keep my flash above the camera in portrait and landscape orientation.
I wouldn't shoot any sort of flash portrait without it.
Even if you get a Lightsphere, I reccomend you have a flash bracket that flips.

About 6 years with no problems with it at all. You might try getting some sort of washer to put between the frames.

The Stroboframe Quik Flip is about $50 and one of the more versatile frames. Highly reccomend it.
