hmm - well i think this is the finished image. and the two used to create it. it's a full 6MP without interpolation.

The perspective is a little off. The ripple is way of in scale relative to the tree. The image doesn't make me suspend disbelief. $0.02.

the ripples are not working for the image, and where ithe tree touches the water the image is way too soft,

just my 2¢ :)

i love this image !

would love some simple steps as to how it was done.

thanks - i know it isn't perfect as far as the ripples go. but it is supposed to be surreal. thanks for input ! the softness on the base of the tree is actually caused by a water drop on the lens. i tried to clean it up a bit, but you can see in the original it is there.

as far as how it's done. basically a couple of layer masks. fine tuned as i went along. dodged and burned. and ran through velvia vison plugin for dynamic range. took a long time.

Hmmmmm the angle of the water surface makes the angle of the tree seem not natural. It's hard to look at with the clashing perspectives. Two different scales are again unrealistic.

Whether or not you were going for realistic - I don't care. I like this shot a lot - especially the concept as a whole. Don't pay attention to nay-sayers.
