at Circuit City
Yes, I love causing you all trouble with your spouses by posting these amazing prices I keep finding! :P
And yes, grabbed me one while I was in the store today. I went there looking for a headset for my office phone.... don't ask how I ended up with a microdrive... seems to happen to me often though! lol

From what I hear the battery usage is minimal. There is SOME battery drain, but not enough to really notice.

We use these 4gb microdrives in the 20D for weddings and the like. The battery usage is nominal.
For those who don't have a Circuit City nearby I noticed Best Buy has them on sale (at least in the store) when I stopped by yesterday. It saved me a trip across the road to CC since it was the same price.

I use the 4gb Hitachi Microdrive for everything. I also have a few CF Cards up to 1gb but never use them. It's great to shoot RAW and be able to take 600 shots. Battery life has not been a factor although I do use a battery grip on my 20D with two batteries. I imagine if you drop it hard it may be easier to damage than a regular CF Card but if it's in the camera the camera and lens will break first. I trust mine completely at at $119 now thats a good deal.

I noticed that two of the six reviewers at the Circut City web site had problems with this drive and the 300D - any experiances here to verify or contradict that??? |

I didn't look at the reviews, but I have the exact same microdrive and a 300D. The write time is so slow it's painful. 4 frames in burst and I'm out for about a minute. And then I take 4 more shots and I wait again. If you shoot sports, candids where the perfect moment matters, anything where you would use burst (more than 1 frame) I wouldn't recommend it. Shooting in a controlled enviroment (like my lightbox) it works fine. Course, nothing moves. Guess it would do well on landscapes/scenery also.
BTW - it might make a difference that I shoot exclusively in RAW.

You can usually find pretty good prices on all memory here:
Pricewatch
Newegg
Although I am not sure what a TwinMOS is it is only $102
I don't have any experience with a Microdrive but I have always heard they are slow.

I agree the microdrives are slower than the premium CF cards. I also agree that if you are doing sports action photog and need very rapid multiple shots then it may not be the answer. I shoot only RAW and it can still take several rapid shots but then does take a few seconds to write them. At $119 for 4gb it's cheaper than a cf card same size.
