the shutter speeds i would be using are going to be in the 1000's range

Okay, UPS just delivered the lens! Woo Hoo...

First impression, it's big and heavy.

I'm going to hook it up to my camera and go out and see what it can do. I'll post pictures tonight!

Then i don't think it will matter if you ahve IS or not.

OK, I'm officially jealous!!! I've been eyeing that lens for nearly a year!!! May I borrow it? I'll let you know how it works! :-)

Panning opens up a whole 'nother world of shutter speeds and acceptable sharpness, but if you need that long of a shutter even at high ISO you'd almost always be better off with flash, or not shooting at all.

I may have had the IS mode set wrong during these shots... anyway, it is a big and impressive looking lens (and heavy). I will try to get some time over the weekend to play some more!
