was there a plan? yes and no. no, there was no 'formal' business plan detailing all the operations of the business--you know, the type of thing you would take to potential lendors/investors.

the 'plan' was more of a commitment to what i call the hemingway/king principle©. this is the principle that if you work prolifically at your craft, sooner or later you will produce a body of work that cannot be ignored. hemingway basically wrote from 6am until 12pm every day, and he also threw out 9 of every 10 pages he wrote. king wrote nearly every day for 10 years before getting published...

phase 1 of my plan was to shoot as much as possible in order to both build market recognition for my name, and produce a wide and solid portfolio. i've succeeded on both counts (and i have dpc to thank for inspiring me to shoot more than a few things that i probably wouldn't have shot had it not been for the challenges). what i wanted to do most was establish myself as a reliable and competent resource, someone who could be counted on to show up and get the job done.

phase 2 is still under development ;-)

Hi Skip!
Michele here from the Brooklyn Bridge shoot on July 27. I had a great time and got some real decent shots.

I love all of your work and think you have an amazing style.

You are definitely an inspiration to me as I jump head first into the world of photography!

In your one year of putting yourself out there, you have accomplished pretty much everything I could hope to achieve in my future photographic career. I wish you all the best, and hope to get to your level one day.

Sheesh...how in the world did I ever miss this post before?

I don't have a lot of extra time on my hands...I'm very stingy with what I do with it. Reading your posts and viewing your photos is never a waste of my time.

I enjoy humor and being goofy as much as the next person, but not 24/7 - and I appreciate the substance you bring with your photography and your writing skills. Even the times you share in the humor here, I appreciate your wit. It does not surprise me at all that you have been successful.

I also appreciate how grateful you are for the success you've had. You work extremely hard no doubt, but also recognize that in many ways your success is a team effort with family, coworkers and friends. I have to add that I think the Lord may have you right where He wants you, too. I'm sure through your photography, you've had opportunities to minister in a way to folks. I have no idea what your religious beliefs are, but it seems when God gives a gift he does offer opportunities for you to share it as well...and you seem very open to that graciousness of giving.

Well, I didn't mean to sound like a sermon - but thanks for your post and I still don't know how I missed it before today!

Damnit, Skip, you must be one of the happiest people I ever heard of. Great work. I don't tend to be envious, but I'd really love to change places with you. Wish you all the best for your further career - as a photographer or whatever...
