I would LOVE to do that ...but some here consider that "confrontational" and durning voting I think that is considered a no-no.
And then when the maker does post after the challenge he/she is flamed with comments beating them down for being thin skinned ...etc... |
haha, you got a point there, lol.
we cant please everyone, can we? :p |

Is that "acceptable" while the challenge is in progress?
moreover even though I have the same type of issue in the current challenge ... The image that stoked my rant isn't even mine...
In a perfect world there would be a challenge process in the voting... I know that that cannot be done... but the image that has been in my mind ... I would stand in defense of in a new york second because it got shafted (4.9) by voters with narrow views of what makes a good image.
BTW I dont know the maker of the image so it is not something that is on a personal level... that is why i posted in Rant.

You can't respond to comments on your own photos during a challenge but no one can read anyone else's comments during a challenge anyway so it doesn't matter much. You can just add your comments as soon as the challenge ends.

And a excellent image goes down the tubes with a 4.9 due to voters that dont understand what they are looking at (based on the uninformed comments that were made) and there is really nothing that can be done... except to try to educate them after the challenge and be marked a wimp

Would you like to share the image that is not yours?

John Setzler said this best...paraphrased 'You as a voter cannot asume what the photographer meant to do, and should vote according to how you feel about the photo. It isn't your place to say that they did something wrong, as they may have gone to great lengths to acheive that exact result.'

So a few people liked the DOF and a few didn't. What's the big deal? The photographer marked them all helpful so obviously they didn't mind too much. Why does it have you so bothered? You like the image, other people don't. Who cares! There is nothing wrong with that. Mark it as a favorite and go on with life.
edited to be less rude :)

hi,
i as a voter and challenge participant ALWAYS when looking at entries HAVE TO look for ALL aspects of the photo and try to think like the photographer who shooted the photo, right ? and then and only then when we are sure what have we seen on the photo write down all out thoughts and ideas about the photo ... if something is OOF and we think it's NOT okay we should say it so but bear in mind that this was maybe photogs intention and say it also, or EVEN better ASK the photog what is that all about ...
i dont know, i really prefer asking photographer a question when something i tickling my mind about the photo, i think it's okay this way ...
/going for a nescafee

You can't think like the photographer - this is a visual medium, and if the image doesn't communicate it's meaning to you, then either you are not the intended audience or the photographer failed.
Some of the greatest photographs are judged great not for what he photographer was thinking, but for the fact many folks 'get' the image. The message is communicated visually very well and so the image is great. Pretty much the same here on DPC...images that communicate very well to the widest possible audience do the best.
Unfortuneately, to do appeal to widest possible audience you aften have to speak loudly, slowly and use small words - this limits the appeal of subtlety, complexity and out of the box ideas.

This is all because one commenter said something about out of focus? Wow. |
