I won this lens off e-bay and i got it today. When i put it on i can adjust how much it magnifys from .75-1.25.
Could i set my cameras focus to manual so i could adjust the DOF with the lens? what would be the best way to set the camera to use this lens?
I can adjust it from all the way back and then in spots between .75-1.25 it will autofocus fine but it seems to only focus at the points i stop if you fallow me. If i stop say 1.00 then hit the shutter halfway it will focus on that spot, then if i try and move the lens in further still holding the shutter halfway its not infocus anymore till i let off the shutter button and hit it halfway again.
If i set it to infinity would that work? set to manual focus then set it to infinity? |

The behavior you describe means it is not "parfocal." Parfocality means that focus distance is maintained while zooming. there's nothing you can do except to refocus after adjusting the "zoom."
Edit:
What you've got is really a funky adapter that can be transmogrified from a "wide converter" to a teleconverter. When set at 1.0, it will have pretty much no effect on anything, except to add optical abberations. If it works at the very wide end, it might be useful to give you even wider coverage (if you don't get vignetting, and I suspect you will).
