I'm new to photography and my picture are nothing like anything here. The talent collection on DPC is amazing. Do any of you have suggestions, tips, tricks, ideas, lessons, tutorials, or anything to help me out. The local college does not offer digital photo classes. I have a canon d70s with 28-80mm, 70-300mm and a 0.5x pro high definition with macro (wide angle?) I have the uv filter on it as suggested. I have no clue what the other 2 are for. I love photography and want to learn.

hey christine! welcome to DPC. Feel free to check out our "Learn" link above where you can read tutorials, "how'd they do it" for specfic (and cool) photos, and much more! Also, the forums are searchable and you can probably find a lot of information you're looking for there!

Cheers

Hi Christine

DPC is a great place to learn! There are a lot of people on this site who were new to photography just a couple years ago and are now putting out professional work.

Best advice I can give you is just to get out there and take pictures and see what works, find a style, and have fun. Challenges are a great way to learn too since they often push you to try things you normally might not. Just don't give up and keep on trying and you'll improve quicker than you might imagine...

If you have specific questions or need specific advice don't hesitate to post as I'm sure someone will answer.

Read... read... and read some more. This site is great and you will pick up a lot of good hints. However I would also check out the dpreview.com forums as there are a lot of good specific forums such as lighting and post processing.

Once you get real good and want to be REALLY intimidated, check out the fredmiranda forums.

As for books, good basic begginer books are "Understanding Exposure" and "Learning to See Creativly".

Don't know about anyone else here but I've always liked the tutorials at Luminous Landscapes too.

I agree, a little too much blue hue. I like your original flower shot and your modified one too though the original better.

Couldn't really say where you should be in the tutorials though... whats your favorite kinds of photography? What do you feel your strengths and weaknesses are? Where do you want to go with your art?

Well, then I'd start by going and taking a bunch of photos of nature and kids, as many types as you can.

Then post process them and play with them until they are as good as you think you can get them. Then ask yourself and others what you could do better and go from there...
