Just wanted to mention this for a long time....
We all know that DPChallenge has inspired all of us in some way or the other...but i think it has been the biggest source of inspiration for me.

Although i havent taken part in Challenges for a long time now (the reason being my Engineering Final year project)....but the DPC was my source of inspiration for the project...

I am creating a SITE almost similar to DPC for my project....DONT WORRY PEOPLE...I WONT EVER PUT IT ON THE NET,
it is just for my academic purposes (so those of u who think that i am just copying a site its not like that)...
and now that around 50% of the site is complete i think I can TRuely APPRECIATE what a great site DPC is...
The minor details on the site which we generally ignore are AWESOME....I really want to thank the creators (DEVELOPERS AND CODERS) behind
this work of art (the site itself is an artpiece)....

The site that i am creating is on ASP.NET 2.0 (with C#)... and have around 18 tables in the database... I am creating this site alone (if someone knows how many people created DPC plz let me know)

And yes one more thing....for the demo i am using DPC photos that i have downloaded over a period of time...
hope no one here has a problem...I wanted to ask before i use them....

I HAVE EVEN UPLOADED A SCREENSHOT OF MY SITE's PORTFOLIO MANAGER......let me know if u people like it....THANK U DPC .....

Pranam Ashish! I totally agree, this site (and principally the great photographers who use it) has been hugely inspirational for me too. It's really made me focus on some of my techniques.

I agree about the inspirational aspect of dpc, that's why we are here. Your project sounds very interesting, and challenging, but I don't think it is proper to download other people's images for such a use. It says that they "may not be used without permission" at the bottom of each page, and that's what you are doing -- using them without permission. Why not populate your project with your own shots?

I am not sure about this, but I thought I heard somewhere that it was acceptable to use people's photographs for educational purposes, especially where no money is being made (ie the teacher should not base his course around it, but may use it as an example of his own teaching material, and students may use it, properly attributed of course, in their assignments)...

Maybe someone who has a clue can inform?

I personally use the site now and again for private english classes when a computer is handy and use the odd picture to start conversations.

Feel free to use any of my content in your school projects dude!

I know I totally agree... that is why i started this thread...the thing is my site is not for commercial purposes at all IN FACT IT WONT EVEN LEAVE my hard disk.... i have to give a demo on my own PC.... so just to show that photos can be uploaded .. and challenges do work ( i cant take that many photos ) .... SO JUST FOR DEMO I WANTED TO USE THE photos as they increase the overall look of the site and add more variety to it... I dont think anyone should have problems....

DPC was coded by 2 people, drewmedia and langdon. The icons were made by me :)

? As opposed to... ?

Oh, perhaps you are referring to the American IT market which seems to revolve around Windows which wasn't actually reverse engineered from Macintosh.. oh hangon... what I mean is that was actually based on the work of the original programmers who built the foundation of DOS... er....

0, 1. It's all duplication.

I have not personally met and Indian IT techs who have specifically been involved in reverse-engineering, although I meet LOADS of Chinese guys who are... But they are pretty comfortable with that. And there are PLENTY of Chinese involved in non-reverse engineering, original works too. Those businesses don't tend to do so well though because nobody wants those products... go figure...
