Found this on Tamron's site, but it's useful no matter what brand of lens you are considering buying. It shows a sample photo, "zoomed" to the focal length selected, and then you can switch back and forth between 35mm and digital camera cropping to compare.

Really cool, thanks for sharing it. I've been wanting a film camera and a 17-40L, 17 sure is wide on 35mm isn't it.
