I will be going to Yosemite for one day in a couple of weeks. Looking for any tips, information, etc. I will be getting there around 7:00 am and leaving at dark.

Any advice would be great.

Rent a convertible and do Yosemite with the top down. Seriously, when you can look up at all that grandeur all the time, you'll never forget it.

Research the best places to photograph and what time to photograph them. Get there BEFORE sunrise to get setup for your first pictures. The best light is gone by 10AM and does not return until near sunset.

I'm no pro on Yosemite so don't use this as a guide, but just want to share what I know. I'll try to keep it short:

Get to the bridge below lower Yosemite Falls before around 8 am and you can get some waterfall shots with rainbows from the mist. (I got there too late) Cathederal Rocks/spires is nice in the early morning too, go west on Northside Drive and just past the El Capitan picnic area and there's a great spot to view it, usually with a little pond in the foreground in the spring.

Then keep going west on Northside Drive and across to the south side heading back east. Sentinel beach (devils elbow area) is a nice spot to see El Capitan.

Further along southside drive, swinging bridge is a nice traditional spot for shots of upper yosemite falls, but keep a lookout for areas next to the parking lot for nice framing of the falls as well:
.

Just past the swinging bridge lot is a nice view across Leidig Meadows:

.

In the early afternoon check out Bridalveil Falls from Northside Drive pullout, just past El Capitan. Some of the cliffs are still in shadow but the waterfall lights up nicely when the sun peers over the cliffs.

Late afternoon is really nice too when the cliffs and Leaning Tower is lit by the warm afternoon sun. Half Dome is usually best from early afternoon. Either Sentinel Bridge or Cooks Meadow are great viewing spots.

Before sunset, Valley View is nice with the water flowing by. If you have a little time Bridalveil is nice from its parking lot at that time (good time for rainbows) and then head up to tunnel view for sunset before leaving.

Amazon has two nice books on photographing Yosemite, and are really cheap:

"The Photographer's Guide to Yosemite" and "PhotoSecrets Yosemite"

Have fun! Show us some shots!

If you can get up to Glacier Point, you can get some wonderful panoramic views:

I would love to get up to Glacier Point, but the road is still closed.
