Hi,

I've heard that there is an EXIF parser used by the SC which checks if the original image submission has been modifed. Was wondering if it's possible to publish this parser on the website? This way we can check our submissions on our originals before submitting to a challenge.

But if you edit and don't save over the original why would you need it???

I'm guessing the answer would be "we could, but we won't". Among other things, it would mean uploading the original image (multiple megabytes) not just the submitted image (up to 150 kilobytes).

If you want a free program that shows you the EXIF data, there are a few recent threads that have mentioned some. IrfanView got a pretty good wrap overall.

Yeah, the only use of this sounds shady to me... ?

I don't see the OP asking for an EXIF editor, just a viewer. Both exist.

It's more the know what algorithm is used by the DPChallenge parser to check for differences. While a viewer can tell you EXIF data, they cannot predict exactly what is considered "modified" by the SC. And how can a program which says whether your file has been modified or not be shady?

The reason why I was asking that was because I've realised that I may have modified my originals accidentally by downloading using CamerWindow and browsing them using ZoomBrowser. I was not sure if the date modified data would be changed or if ZoomBrowser adds addiditional information to my RAW. I know, it's stupid to have opened my original with another application.

Anyway, I've just figured out a better way of doing it. I've done a binary comparison between a copy of my original and a copy that has been viewed by ZoomBrowser. Apparently, the Canon software does not change any EXIF data.... :)
