I have spent a day and a half at the Swedish Zoo Kolmarden. It took about three hours to drive there, that´s why we spent the night at a Hotel inside the Zoo. Went there mainly to test my new Canon lens 70-200/2.8 L IS USM. I also used the Canon 75-300/4-5,6 IS USM and the Canon 100/2,8 USM Macro. In some (no. 011 and 012) I tested the 70-200 lens and a Soligor 2x extender. I think the 70-200 lens is a fantastic one. A little bit heavy in the beginning but you get used to it.
I have now had my Canon 10D for about 7 weeks and I still make very simple mistakes. When I went to see the dolphin show I set my camera ISO to 1600 because it was very dark inside. Then I went on shooting outside for about two hours and had forgotten to set back the ISO to a lower value.
One more mistake: When I use the extender I must set the camera exposure compensation to -1.5. This day I forgot to set it back. Went on shooting with the wrong settings for hours.
Just follow the link if you want to see some of my pictures. I took about 700 photos these days. Some of the "best???" I can´t show you because I am submitting them this week.

Carsten those are awesome pics! Excellent work! You are lucky having one of the best zoo's in Europe right at your doorstep!!! Okay, three hours away is a lot, but still at your doorstep! I'll get there someday soon for sure.
Those bird shots are amazing. Love the shallow DOF with that lens. I'm gonna get the Canon 70-200/2.8 L IS USM in October. October is soooo far away!

I just saw them via my favourite artists link at pbase and was looking for a way to react. Like Kiwi already said, the bird pics are really cool. Kolmarden_009 is the one I like the most.
The quality of the lenses also showes. Incredibly clean pics. The more I look at stuff from dSLR's with good lenses, the more I get irritated by the background noise and lack of fine detail of my 602.

Those are great pictures and I guess the new lens passed the test. That's a great lens, I wish I could afford one. |
